Hey, i own a 84 Fifth Avenue it has leaf springs in the back and ball joint suspension for the front. Could I put an air ride system in this car? If so what would i need for air bags and could I install it myself? or should i try and find someone to do it for me?
thanks

well i think i' m going to get someone to install it for me. But for the back of my car would i need those shockwave 7000 or 9000 or could i just use shockwave 3.0' s for all four corners?

I also forgot would i need shocks? and the car weight is about 3600 lbs

The Shockwaves have the shocks inside the air bag, just like a coilover. I would consider using the SKW9000 in the rear if possible.

So you think i should get the hockwave 9000 that are 799$, is that for the pair or just one?and for the front would the SKW1000 shockwave 3.0 be good? And since i' m asking alot of questions for the compressor air unit would ARC4000e be enough power. With all these different thing si would be buying would i get all the hardware to install and instructions how to do so? If not do u knwo any websites that have a good install instrction manual?
sorry for all the questions
thanks

so the SKW1000 shockwave 3.0 be good for the front adn shockwave 9000 for the back?

You will want that bellow, but pick out the mounting styles you need. Also remember the stock shock mount might not be strong enough to handle the weight of the vehicle.

okay
so which is better air or hydraulics? can they do the same stuff? which one is better for normal driving?
thanks
not trying to be a smart a**, but why would you bag a fifth avenue. if it is a hoopty why not go with hydraulics
darren@ridetech.com

Hydraulics ride like crap. The air will ride good.

my friend said if i got air bags, i would have to drive slow around corners or the airbag will rip or tear? is that true

Which is better? Well what are you wanting to do with the car?
If you are just wanting to drop it on the ground & raise it & look cool & still be able to drive it daily. Go with AIR
Hydraulic, ride a lot rougher.... But if you are wanting to hop the car or 3-wheel then yea you want hydraulics...
Unless u wanna spend a whole hell of a lot of money, then u can still hop & 3-wheel with air. Well not air. More like Nitrogen, or Heleum (spell)
Granted Hydros are generally cheaper then Air. the ride quality suck. HYDROS can be messy....& if u have a leak with Hydros u have luid that leaks not AIR... also with Gas prices the way they are you really dont wanna through 200-300 lbs in your trunk... that really helps with your Gas Mileage.... Where as Air sytems are quite light, in comperison... no need for 4+ batterys & heavy pumps.....
So ask yourself what are you wanting to do.... Just look cool & improve ride quality....
Or Hop up on someone bumper & do a lil 3-wheelin?
& yea.... I think this might be the FIRST PERSON EVER wanting to trick out an ' 84 Fifth Ave........

Now I am quite bummed.
No three wheelin with Air?

Naw you can 3-Wheel with air.... if your Valves are fast enough... & you would have to drive in a circle to acheive the 3-wheel.... i would say if you are running smaller than 1/2 valves & lines then you aint gonna 3-wheel... unless u have a lot of weight in the back end. But 3-wheeling on bags is possible.. u just gotta know what you are doing & have the right equipment...

Hmm, I see.
I was thinking about putting fast bags in with 1/2 in lines.
Would that do it?
And does the line size determine the valve size?
Sorry, I am such a newb:-D

wow thanks man that just finalized that i' m puttin airbags in my beast, thanks alot!

you could run 3/4 lines with a 1/2 valve, just use a reducer when it goes in to the valve.... 1/2 may work for a 3-wheel, but again you would have to drive in a circle & if that doesnt work you would have to add extra weight in the rear corner of the car...

I have this book called The Lowrider' s Handbook that says you have a system that has New RidePro MAX compressor systems featuring 2 black Max 150-psi compressors, two 3 gallon tanks, 3/8-inch DOT air line and fittings, four-way RidePro Max solenoids, four-way control panel anmd complete wiring harness with weatherpak connections. do you have a kit like this or do you just buy each one seperate?

I' ve been talking on this lowrider forum and the guys on there say its possible to install bags on a torsion bar by taking the torsion bar right out, would this work?

Hey 5th ave, you may have a unique set up but with a little time and patirnce you should be able to put bags in front or even with enough adapting even shockwaves.
BUT!!!remember you are doing it first which I have to give you props on and if you get the car looking good and driving good then you get the kudos for it.
It may not be like a drop in but consider this ,,,IT' S HOT RODDING!!!, and thats what we do for fun, for looks, for the " aw s**t man you did that?" and so good natured slaps on the back.
I am an ASE Master Automotive Technition as well as a life long hot rodder, I built my own suspension for my 75 Monsa to do away with the torque arm and I am currently developing anair spring mount for the front of H-bodys. BUT you can do it if you pay attention to detail, use common sense and ask questions.
If I was you I' d go to junkyard and buy the front crossmember out of the same body car (but dont get the tortion bars, ya dont need ' em) then you can set in your leisure and develop the ideas to mod air rid to it, and see if you need any welding or you can make it all bolt on. Then after you get it right you can put it on your car and know its right. If you want a little help and live in Indiana I might be able to help you with some ideas.you cam email me at Xanadu4024@aol.com.
Good luck and hey I always liked those cars they just seemed to be all ate up after they get traded off. Hope yours gats completed soon.
