Darren,
just wondered what the disadvantage of running the upper bars (tri link) from the outer part of the axle to the center of a crossmember in front of the axle...Ive seen it done, but just wondered if itworks out as well...thanks

Works great. That way you don' t have to make a crossmember. Thats actually the preferred method if there is not a gas tank in your way.

i would assume then if you did this, the upper bars would be placed so the mounts almost touch in the center of the crossmember...correct?

I read that backwards. Most of the time we run the uppers from the center of the axle out to the frame. But that depends on where your gas tank is.
