Hey everyone.....I am in the process of converting my '68 Chevelle to air ride....

Last week a purchased the SKW1018DALCA kit from Summit and getting ready to get the rear kit, airpod, et cetera...

The kit that I received from Summit is (I am almost certain) a 3-4 yr old kit....the catalog in the box is a 2006 catalog (first indication) the LCA tubing is 1" diameter vs. the 1.125" on the new StrongArms, non push to lock fittings, et cetera....

very disappointing that they would sell a kit that has been sitting on the self for 4 yrs?

What are the differences between the new set and the old one in addition to what I mention above? Are the shocks the same? I noticed the new kit (and what I expected) has the rebound adjustment at the top of the shock similar to my AFCO shocks....

I am thinking about sending this back to them and have them send me the right set...if the differences are significant...

Thanks

That is really the only difference from then to now. Jan. 1st we switched to the AFCO's. Nothing wrong with the VariShocks we used before though.

Thanks Darren....If I ordered directly through you I doubt you would sell me a 3-4 yr old kit....I would imagine that Summit or RideTech would update the part #s with each version so that situations like mine do not happen.....if a 2010 kit has the same part # as a 2006 kit but the parts are not the same (shocks, control arm design, etc) then it is deceiving as customers have no idea how old of a kit they are buying or what version it is and this will create issues....

Are there any reliability issues with the smaller 1"D tubes? What is the wall thickness on these?

Also, I believe in the newer arms there is a provision to limit interference with the idler arms etc (adjustable bolt mounted on the side of the control arm.) Don't see that with what I have.

Lastly, how does this design (old and new) handle suspension bottoming? I don't see any bump stops on the arms....is there something that I need to install on the frame?

Thanks

There were no strength issues with the smaller diameter tubing, mostly just aestetics. Give me a shout when you get time... 812-481-4706. On the GM A bodies, the steering stop is on the steering arm, this will contact the ball joint plate at full lock. This has not changed. The shockwaves have an internal bumpstop that we use to limit compression.

hey Darren,
I talked to Craig this morning per Summit's recommendation and we are in the process of getting this worked out.....

If I could make a suggestion, you really should update your part #s with each new version of each kit....having the same part # for 2 kits that are, in my opinion, substantially different creates unnecessary confusion....

I will call you in the next couple of days so that I can get the Airpod/e3 going so that I can get this in the car....trying really hard to get the car on the road for a trip by March 1st which is less than 2 weeks away....

would like to get the rear going as well but due to time constrains I might have to put that off until April...

thanks
