View Full Version : -48 Pontiac with-84 Corvette axles
Hi you all !
What shall I do with this babe? In -84 the Corvette came with transverse composite springs , both in front and rear.Is it a better way to convert from transverse springs to Coilovers to get her as low as possible? And to get her up when I want to ? ( sorry Darren,,heavent been here for a while :)
Please If anyone has an opinion, SHOT ME !! Thanks.

Yes, we just convert it to a coil over setup and use the Shockwave. Here is a link to the shockwave page. It has a picture of the C4 suspension with Shockwaves. It' s the yellow chassis in the middle of the page.

So what youre saying is that the transverse spring is gone and no shocks ,just the shockwave ? And I have to do my own brackets for this?

You got it. Up front I do have a bracket for the lower control arm. But everything else will have to be fabbed.
I guess thers no room for anythingelse in the front than just Shockwave but in the rear I guess I can use just bellows and shocks and it will work just fine or.?

No.
On the independent rear there is too much articulation for the conventional air bag.
As the axle goes through suspension travel the upper and lower bag mount will become uneven, too much for the bag to handle. It really needs to be a coilover or a Shockwave.
So Darren,,
What set-up do you think I need for this babe including everything ?
By the way ,,I like to drive like a runaway rather often and like to race to.Is the Shockwave to soft for hard driving or should I just go coilovers?
THX and Regards

The Shockwave will work fine for driving it hard. It has the 12 position adjustable QA1' s on it to adjust the shock valving to help tune it in.
For the front and rear you will need the SKW1000 and for the compressor kit I would use the ARC4000. Total price will be around $2650.
OK I will go on your expertis and buy this kit.I want to thank you for helping me out. Im living in Sweden and your stuff is really expensive here.Lucky for me I have a buddy in N.J and I will send the stuff to him.
Is Brian Shaw the man to talk to ?
Have a good life Darren!

Yea, either one of us can help you.
Thanks and good luck!
I forgotten to tell you one thing,,Im gonna use the front clip from the Corvette aswell as the rear for making axels bolt right in,if you know what I mean. The rest of the Pontiac frame Im gonna use for the body.Is that gonna cause any probs
for the installation?

What are you doing for frame rails?
Are you using the Corvette front and rear frame sections?
Yes I tought that will be a good idea?

All the ones I have ever seen just had boxed frame rails. I guess it should work on the stock clip.
is there now way telling for sure?

I can' t imagine why it wouldn' t work.

The only problem you will have is welding to that stock corvette rail. It is too thin of metal. And there is not enough room to make a bolt on upper bracket. Or at least a good one. The best way to do that is to get a hold of a set of aftermarket rails. Get a hold of Bob at Progressive Automotive... he knows his stuff.
