Today while having the oil changed they noticed my steering rack was leaking. With the truck lowered (dropped coils) the ends of the rack went up at such an abrupt angle they suspect this is what made the rack start leaking.

Anyone had this problem before? Is there a fix for it? I was thinking that dropped spindles would be the only way. I' m about to order a Cool Ride Kit with upper and lower control arms and would like to address this problem while installing them, so if I need spindles I would need to go ahead and look into ordering them.

Thanks. My truck is a 2000 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab.

Bill,
I must be a little confused, those trucks don' t have a rack and pinion steering. They just have a steering box and the height of the vehicle would not affect it. By any chance is this a manufacturers warranty issue. Sometimes they look for this to blame shit on.

I myself didn' t know the late model Silverados have rack & pinion steering, but they do. This isn' t a dealer issue, my oil change place noticed it and lifted my truck up on the lift and showed me ... I don' t think they were trying to point something out just to sell me parts .. they were really good about it.

Here' s a picture or a rack and pinion, the problem I am having is that fluid is leaking around the bellows, the tie rod ends are going slightly up to compensate for the lowered suspenion.

I guess I' m the only one to ever have this problem then.
