1962 Buick Invicta Wagon

 

The AirWagon is a 1962 Buick Invicta 6 passenger station wagon. Sikkens paint covers the AirWagon with a deep two tone blue color scheme. The exterior trim and bumpers on the car have been painted a matte silver for a modern, high tech look. Several hundred hours of blocking and paint prep have made the AirWagon flat and smooth. All engineering, fabrication, paint and bodywork, wiring, interior work, and assembly was performed by the craftsmen at Precision Coachworks in Jasper, Indiana.The AirWagon was debuted at the 2004 Hot Rod Power Tour/Rod & Custom Americruise. It appeared at several GoodGuys shows in the summer of 2004 and appeared at the 2004 SEMA show in Las Vegas this fall. There will be a series of build-up articles to appearing in Rod & Custom Magazine and in Custom Rodder Magazine in 2004 & 2005.

The lowered stance of the AirWagon is accomplished through a complete ShockWave™ / CoolRide™ air suspension system from Ridetech. The new RidePro e™ computerized compressor system incorporates a remote control and the optional LevelPro auto leveling system. The AirWagon automatically inflates to a pre-programmed air pressure every time the car is started.

Jasper Engines and Transmissions has rebuilt the original 401 cu. in. Nailhead engine and supplied a 700R4 overdrive transmission to make the long highway seem much shorter. A Holley 950 Commander throttle body EFI system and a MSD Buick distributor are major power upgrades. A custom serpentine belt drive was fabricated using March pulleys. It is all kept cool by a Be Cool aluminum radiator with a Spal electric fan. Billet Specialties 18×8 SLD89 soft lip Vintec wheels and Nitto 255-45/18 555 series tires are stopped by a 4 wheel disc brake system from Stainless Steel Brake Corporation.

The interior panels have been done in black ultraleather with a black paisley material used for the headliner. This black paisley pattern has been carried onto the center of the hood in a “soft touch” texture. New door panels were fabricated to incorporate the Kicker SS65.2 6-1/2″ component speakers and Spal power window mechanisms and remote control power locks. The Kicker SX900.4 900 watt amp, SX1250.1 1250 watt amp and the RidePro e™ compressor components have been mounted to a custom fabricated panel under the spare tire access door. A pair of Kicker S8L7 Solo Baric square subs and an Alpine CD player, XM radio, and CD changer complete the sound system. Killer air conditioning from Vintage Air, sound and heat insulation from Dynamat, an ididit tilt steering column, a complete wiring kit from Painless Performance, and intermittent wipers from Detroit Speed make the driver as comfy as possible. All interior panel fabrication upholstery and installation was handled by Precision Coachworks.
