GoodGuys Indy Report
This year at the 2009 Goodguys Hot Rod Nationals we witnessed a miracle of sorts, for the first time in a long time the weather was great! There was little to no humidity, it only rained on Saturday night and sprinkled a little on Sunday and temperature stayed relatively close to eighty degrees. If you’ve ever gone to Indy for this show you know exactly what I’m talking about, like when the humidity makes you feel like you’re being broiled alive or the rain comes so hard and fast that your display trailer is washed away.
As always the cars were plentiful, we saw hot rodded 50’s Volkswagen beetles, traditional rods, sweet customs, gnarly street rods, and pretty much everything you can imagine up to ’72. One of the highlights of Goodguys Indy is the Nostalgia drag racing. To be able to just wander up to the stands at anytime all weekend long and see head to head runs is absolutely incredible. They had floppers, front engine rails, a couple altereds and of course tons of run what ya brung weekend warriors.
All in all it really was a great show that was made even better by good weather. The crowd seemed a little down this year, but I really believe it was more about the history of weather there (and the weather people suggesting it was going to rain all weekend) than anything else that the “them” of the world might suggest. If you’re looking for a good show to add to your list, this should definitely be one of them.
