July 14th, 2009

The 12th Annual PPG Goodguys Hot Rod Nationals held in Columbus Ohio was yet another success. There were over 6500 registered participants and even though it rained the better part of Saturday most folks hung around and just kept having fun.

Columbus offers an autocross, however it’s a little different then at the other events in that it’s only run on Friday and it’s only open to vendors and the “Street Machine of the Year” candidates. For those of you that don’t know, Goodguys requires all the Street Machine candidates to make three passes on the autocross as part of the qualification to be chosen. It’s very exciting to see these high-end cars out there getting busy. Some of them take it somewhat easy, but most of the guys drive ‘em like they stole ‘em.

On Sunday the waiting was finally over, the Roadster Shop won the Street Machine of the Year with their beautiful ’62 Vette AND the Goodguys Supernova, built by Precision Coachworks and Air Ride Technologies, was given away to a very lucky Allen Naylor from Alabama. It was a great show and that’s all there is to it.
