The ultimate height sensor is defined as being compact, precise and durable. Mounting versatility and ease of installation are key factors as well. For best results, it’s important to fit ride height sensors in exactly the right location. RidePRO-HP ride height sensors serve all of these factors. The sensors are highly accurate while the mil-spec weatherproof connectors and linkage ends are extremely reliable. From there, RidePRO-HP ride height sensors are super-compact and easy to install.
Ride Height Sensors and Arms
For starters, sensor arms are pre-drilled with six holes. This makes it easy to set arm length for proper motion ratio relative to your car or truck’s suspension travel. Whether you have 2″ travel or 8″ travel, you’ll find an appropriate arm length without drilling or fabricating. RidePRO-HP sensors may be the most compact design on the market, enabling placement in compact spaces. RIDEPRO-HP sensors rotate a full 360 degrees. While your car or truck will never measure 360 degrees of movement, the design feature eliminates the possibility of sensor failure due to over-travel.
This is where things get fun. While sensors are designed for accuracy, RidePRO-HP linkage is designed for flexibility. The linkage rods feature easy-to-bend solid brass cores that can be shaped to clear obstructions such as sway bars tie rod ends and exhaust. You might end up with an L-shape, offset or straight linkage rod — short or long. It’s up to you. A tip: Use a piece of welding rod to mock up the desired shape and length of each linkage rod, then trim and bend your actual part to match. Linkage rod ends offer high articulation and are extremely tolerant of misalignment. These rod ends are made of a rubberized material that will stand up to extreme abuse. The overall design is vastly superior to “ball and socket” linkage ends.
Pressure vs Height Measurement
Any time we talk about ride height sensors, the discussion turns to pressure vs height comparisons. Height-only leveling systems are priced lower and work fine on show vehicle where going up and down is more important than on-road functionality. While most of the last 12 Ridler award winners have been RideTech-equipped, RideTech is a performance company first and foremost. Measuring air spring pressure is critical — just as is the case with tires and similar pressure vessels. With height-only systems, it is possible to have a vehicle that sits at a desired height, but with under-inflated air springs. As soon as a change in load is applied, such as turning a corner, launching from a start or a sudden panic stop, under-inflated springs offer reduced performance — or worse — unpredictable or even dangerous handling. Pressure matters. As such, RidePRO-X digital leveling control is pressure measurement-based. RidePRO-HP Ride Height Sensors are employed for an additional degree of accuracy.
Pressure AND Height Measurement
The ultimate digital leveling system combines pressure measurement plus height measurement for maximum accuracy. This is especially useful for cars and trucks that are driven the way hot rods are supposed to be. From hot rods to sport trucks and pro-touring g-machines, most enthusiasts are into performance. If this sounds like you, pressure plus height measurement is the way to go. Pressure plus height is also recommended for especially heavy and light vehicles as well as vehicles where the weight changes frequently. For example if you have a custom Chevy Suburban with air suspension, where you sometimes carry the entire family and all of it’s gear, we recommend adding RidePRO-HP Height Sensors. One more example, we use RidePRO-X digital leveling in conjunction with RidePRO-HP Ride Height Sensors on our 48 Hour Gen 2 Camaro for racing. Here, high cornering loads and serious competition demand maximum accuracy.
Air suspension has come a long way. Through advanced shock absorber and leveling technology, RideTech is now achieving performance with air suspension that is on par or better than with coilover suspension. RidePro-HP ride height sensors are not only the most accurate and reliable design on the market, they are also the easiest to mount. If you want more from your driving experience, RidePRo-X and RidePRO-HP are the ultimate combination.
