Squarebody Showstopper at The Lone Star Throwdown

At the Lone Star Throwdown last weekend, Dwayne and Kim Jenkins’ 1984 GMC Sierra stood out from the crowd. That’s no small feat, considering there were 2,000 hot trucks and custom cars filling the Montgomery County Fairgrounds in Conroe, Texas.

Walking around the show, the entries varied from mild to wild. The Jenkins’ Texas-based truck blends the best of both worlds. It combines the classic Squarebody look with modern day performance and reliability.

Starting with a rust-free 1984 Sierra Classic, the Jenkins worked to take the truck to the next level. To get it sitting low and handling better than ever, they installed a complete Ridetech coil-over system in the front and rear. Wilwood brakes provide the stopping power, and the Schott wheels measure 20×8 and 22×10, respectively.

When it came to the driveline, the Jenkins knew they wanted more power. A GMPP Connect & Cruise package scratched that itch, and they now have 525hp ready for action. The stout V8 is linked to a 4L70 transmission and a 3.73 Motive Gear rear end.

Of all the features on this truck, we especially like the paint job. Based on the original scheme, the truck wears the correct PPG 21 Light Blue Poly and color code 12 Fremont White. When paired with the red brake calipers, Holley valve covers and GMC emblems, the truck has timeless appeal.

Just like the exterior, the interior was given the original treatment. The seats and door cards feature German leather upholstery, and Dakota Digital gauges have an unmistakable factory look. Lightly smoked glass adds an extra touch of class.

You would be hard-pressed to find a cleaner truck than the Jenkins’ GMC. No matter who you ask, they’ll agree that it’s a Squarebody showstopper!
